Who Are We?
How We Started
Mace Software, Inc. is a West Virginia corporation founded by Gary L. Mace in 1996. Ever since his first exposure to computers while attending college in 1979, Gary has always enjoyed the challenges this changing technology offered. (1979..yes, thats when computers had about as much power as a wrist watch, and took up three rooms) The business grew out of Gary's hobby programming for the late 1980's-early 1990's pre-internet online services called BBS's (Bulletin Board System). Gary's BBS, The Fly by Nite BBS, was one of the largest BBS's in eastern WV. The games and utilities written for online use became very popular with BBS users and soon he began selling copies to other BBS operators around the world. However, as the internet started becoming more popular, the BBS slowly become part of technological history. It was time for a new challenge!
Programming Projects
With little market for BBS online games, Gary began to shift his work to writing games for the Windows based PC and operating software related web sites such as Win-Shareware.Com (currently offline for reconstruction). His primary focus is on word based games that offer educational value as well as enjoyment. The games are written as shareware. (what is shareware?) Mace Software's Alphatris and Word Warp games continue to be a favorite among word game lovers. As sales from these games increased, it was decided in 1996 to formally create the company, Mace Software, Inc. Programming continues today on future projects. The current programming project is a collection and home inventory database manager expected to be released late spring 2002. The program is designed to offer far more features than other competing products and has a goal to be more user freindly.
Software SuperStore Opens
In 1998, Mace Software teamed with Digital River, Inc. in the creation of Mace Software's Online Software Store. Offering over 270,000 current software titles, the store is now among the largest on the web. Customers have the option of downloading most of their software purchases immediately saving shipping costs and eliminating the wait normally associated with online software purchases. This concept allows the online customer the convience of shopping from their home without making them wait days or weeks for products to be shipped. This method of shopping for software has grown significantly over the past few years, and is expected to become the dominent means of buying software in the future.
Online Shopping Expanded
With the success of the Online Software Store, Mace Software teamed with Vcommerce Corp to open three new online stores in early 2002. The Mace Software DVD SuperStore offers hundreds of current, past, pre-release DVD's at expectional value. The Mace Software Video Game Store offers great pricing on games and accessories for PlayStation, PlayStation 2, GameBoy, XBox, GameCube, Nintendo 64, and Sega Dreamcast. And the Mace Software Technology Source offers outstanding deals on computers, printers and accessories. All of our stores can be easily accessed through our central www.MaceSoftware.com web site. Other online stores are being considered for future addition including the possibility of a Music and Book store.
